We are back home from our wonderful week at the Sweet Adelines International Convention in Baltimore, MD, where we had the honor of being named the SAI 2015 6th Place International Finalist!
We had a whirlwind week, starting with a fun send-off party hosted by the Capital Accord Chorus. Those women know how to make us feel so special!
Next, we gave a performance on the Harmony on the Harbor show on Monday night. Several top-calibre barbershop quartets and choruses were on this show. We were proud to share the stage with such talent! And performing at the wonderful Joseph Myerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore was a dream come true! What a way to start the week!
On Tuesday, we all performed as members of Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus, serving as mic testers for the Harmony Classic competition. As the first official performers of the convention, HCMC was proud to welcome the convention to our hometown of Baltimore. We all dressed as “Tracy” from the musical “Hairspray”. That was so much fun!
Wednesday was Quartet Semi-Finals day. We performed our two contest songs early, and then waited for the rest of the long day to get the results – yes, we made it into the Finals again!
Thursday morning bright and early, we were interviewed for the local Baltimore NBC TV station – that was so much fun! Afterward, we watched the chorus semi-finals and held our own rehearsals for the next day.
Friday was the big day of Quartet Finals. We had so much fun putting together our Wedding package this year, and had a total blast performing it for the SAI crowd. We were honored to be named the 6th Place Finalists this year. You can watch our performance here. Congratulations to all the competitors, and especially to Bling!, who were crowned the 2015 SAI International Quartet Champions!
Saturday, we enjoyed the Chorus Finals, (congratulations to the Melodeers, who gave an astounding performance!) and then we all participated with our various family members in the Family Chorus. This was a first for us, and it was a thrill to share the love of music and harmony with our moms, sister, and daughter.
Saturday night we went visiting around the various hotels and hospitality suites to share in the fellowship of the barbershop hobby. This is always the highlight of the week, and while unfortunately we didn’t sing much (due to illness), we did enjoy meeting old friends and making new ones.
Finally, back in our room late Saturday night, we toasted to a wonderful year of singing together, learning, growing, and making memories. We are looking forward to 2015 and all it has to bring!
