Woohoo! The 2012 SAI Convention and Competition in Denver has come and gone, and what an exciting outcome for us! We were thrilled beyond imagining when we placed 7th at the SAI International Quartet Finals!
Going in to Denver, we were not concerned about contest placement, or scores, or outcomes – rather, we concentrated solely on delivering a high quality performance, hoping to increase our musical abilities and give a meaningful, emotionally artful performance of our contest material. We didn’t prepare music or material for a finals performance (though we did throw an old dress into the suitcase “just in case”). We just spent our time on giving the best semi-finals performance we could give.
We were totally ecstatic on Wednesday when our names were called to sing in the Quartet Finals on Friday!
We spent the next day working amongst ourselves, with coaches and friends in Denver, and on the phone to friends and advisors back home, to put together a show package to perform on Friday’s Quartet Finals portion of the contest. We took our favorite songs from our show repertoire, put together a short “skit” to tie them together, and said “what the heck!”. On stage we went, and had the time of our lives! In our minds, we had already won the contest, and we were now performing on the “Show of Champions” as a bonus!
At the end of the night, we were so honored and thrilled to be named 7th Place International Quartet Finalists. We are proud to represent our wonderful Region 19, and our fabulous choruses (Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus and Capital Accord Chorus). We are looking ahead to a busy and fun year in 2013, in which we have plans for some exciting new musical opportunities. And we are already planning (and saving!) for the SAI contest in Hawaii in November 2013!
