It’s Convention season again! And for the first time since 2006, Lustre is not competing at the SAI Region 19 Quartet Competition! It will be a slightly strange weekend for us, not gearing up for a competition performance. But it’s also going to be a fantastic weekend, because we’ll get to do a few things that we normally don’t get to do.
First: we’ll be serving as the Inspection Quartet on Friday morning, setting the sound system for the quartet microphones for the Convention Center. It’s an awesome responsibility and we’re honored to be asked. Second: We’ll be serving as the Mic Tester quartet at the beginning of Friday evening’s Quartet Competition, getting the audience (and more importantly) the judges warmed up for the upcoming performances of the 16 quartets who will cross the stage that evening. And Third: We’ll get to actually hear the quartet competition and cheer on our Region 19 quartet sisters! We’re really looking forward to the opportunity to be in the audience to experience the performances of all the quartets who have been working so hard for this event.
On Saturday, Tenor Kate will be competing with Capital Accord Chorus (CAC) in the chorus competition. As last year’s Regional Champs, Harbor City Music Company (HCMC) is sitting out this competition, and instead is serving as Assisting Chorus, performing backstage jobs throughout the venue during the weekend. So Lori C, Lori D and Jenny will be doing that while Kate gives her all with CAC on stage. Then all four of us will perform with HCMC as “outgoing champs” on Saturday after the chorus contest has concluded.
Saturday night, we’ve been invited to sing on the Show of Champions along with the weekend’s winners from each category, and other regional quartets GQ (2013 Rising Star Quartet Winners) and MAXX Factor (2011 Sweet Adeline International Queens of Harmony). Then it’s on to the parties!
We’re wishing the best of luck to all of the weekend’s competitors as they cross the stage in Ocean City. We hope you give the performance of a lifetime!
See you “Down-y Ocean, Hon!”
